General Information
- The purpose of the Compete USA competition is to promote a FUN, introductory, competitive experience to our beginner skaters. We encourage all eligible Learn To Skate skaters to compete…even skaters who just started this summer!!!
- You may compete at the last test level PASSED or one level above. Skaters of every level in learn-to-skate group classes are eligible to compete, even very beginner skaters.
- Events include Snowplow Sam, Basic 1-6, Aspire 1-4 (Pre-Free Skate-Free Skate 4), Pre-preliminary through Preliminary Excel, Well-Balanced events, Adult 1-6, Adult Beginner-Bronze, Spin & Jump Challenge, Compulsory and Showcase.
Skaters may skate in multiple events.
- The cost of the first event is $50.00 and $20.00 for each additional event.
Skaters do not need a private coach to participate, though some might find it helpful. The Basic Elements portion of the competition is similar to one of our test sessions for Learn to Skate Badges. Each level of the competition will consist of a group or flight of 3-4 skaters. The skater will be asked to perform the elements listed on the application. While the skater is performing the elements required there will be three judges assessing the skater. The judges are made up of the coaches from our Learn to Skate program. When prompted to add a coach during registration, you can select Katherine (Katie) McKenzie as the coach if your skater is not currently working with a private coach or you do not know the full name of the group instructor.
If you have music, please make sure the CD is labeled with your full name and event, and bring an extra copy. Music will be returned to the registration desk approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the music events so that you may pick up your CD. Warwick Figure Skaters will not be responsible for music CDs left behind.
All competitors, please arrive AT LEAST 30 minutes before your start time and stop at the registration desk at the main entrance of Thayer Arena. Directions to Thayer Arena, 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI can be found in the Competition Schedule
