Synchronized skating involves teams of 12 to 24 skaters competing at various competitive levels from preliminary to the elite senior division.  Synchronization refers to the unison and accuracy of formations executed by the skaters.  In a well-balanced program, skaters will form circles, lines, blocks, and wheels and intersections choreographed to allow for expression and interpretation of the music.  Intricate footwork and freestyle jumps and spins are used to enhance the maneuvers. Teams are judged on these elements in addition to their speed, program difficulty, style and artistic expression.

Synchronized skating combines beauty and elegance along with the difficulty of maintaining close formations and unison with all the advantages and excitement of a team sport.  Hours of hard work and dedication, both on and off the ice, and then more practice blend the individual skaters into one flowing, synchronized unity.  The skaters slip onto the ice to flow, weave and glide into circles, lines and wheels.  The routines are fast paced and choreographed to highlight the strength, speed, and flexibility of the skaters.

Synchronized skating has become the hottest form of figure skating today and the fastest growing of the five disciplines of ice skating.  Teams of 12 to 24 skaters - ages 5 years old to adult - perform these complicated programs and compete against similar teams throughout their region,  country, and indeed the world.
